About the Core
The LSI Cryostorage Facility has been storing cryopreserved mouse embryos and sperm samples since 2016, providing support for UBC researchers after the UBC Biological Archive lost backing from the University. Located on level B3 of the LSI at UBC, we have been a user-run facility from inception. The LSI subsidizes the core, which has allowed us to keep costs low for users in the face of rising prices.
We have worked extensively with Nicole Hofs, Assistant Manager of the Transgenic Core at the BC Cancer Research Centre for cryopreservation of new strains, rederivation, and thaws of existing strains. Importantly, these mice have passed all health tests for entry to CDM breeding zone and other high barrier facilities. We can also send and receive cryopreserved straws directly from other sources worldwide.
