LSI researchers awarded over $16.9 million in CFI infrastructure funding

Three projects led by LSI researchers have been awarded funding in the latest round of CFI innovation fund grants.

The CFI Innovation Fund provides continued investments in infrastructure, across the full spectrum of research, from the most fundamental to applied through to technology development. UBC researchers are leading and co-leading fourteen projects where UBC is the lead institution. These projects have been awarded a total of $50.6 million in funding. UBC researchers are collaborating on or co-leading a further five projects led by other institutions.

Projects include:

  • UBC's Life Sciences Institute's core facilities
    • Principal Investigators: Leonard Foster (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Michael Smith Laboratories; Life Sciences Institute) and Pauline Johnson (Life Sciences Institute; Microbiology and Immunology)
    • Funding total: $3,400,000
  • BioDevice Foundry
    • Principal Investigators: Govind Kaigala (Life Sciences Institute; School of Biomedical Engineering)
    • Funding total: $2,133,920
  • ASTRID consortium: From atomic to in situ structural analysis of drug target complexes at the host/pathogen interface
    • Principal Investigator: Natalie Strynadka (Life Sciences Institute; Biochemistry & Molecular Biology)
    • Collaborating: Simon Fraser University
    • Funding total: $11,434,220
