Experimental Modelling Facility

About the Core

The Experimental Modelling Facility (EMF) is a core facility within the Life Sciences Institute that offers specialized mouse modelling services, such as humanized mouse models, for academic, not-for profit, and for-profit organizations focused on investigating immunity and pathogenesis of disease.

The EMF aims to provide:

  • Access to nonstandard mouse models, such as humanized mice
  • Centralizing resources, including expert consultants and technicians that can guide or execute an experimental design, tools for interpreting and presenting data obtained from mouse studies for publication, as well as a repository of clear, effective protocols and practical methods developed by researchers with specific technical knowledge for others to reference
  • Specific training in experimental design and practical methodology, focused on designing effective experiments to obtain useful data, teaching practical techniques for acquiring such data, and the uses and limitations of different types of mouse models in research
  • Humanized mouse modeling, including generation of custom models, performance of interventions, and immunological analysis
  • Experimental design consulting and protocol generation
  • Technical training (one-on-one or in groups)
  • Advanced surgical procedures

* These values are averaged/typical; exact costs are specific to each project depending on the needs of investigator, whether they are for NFP or industry groups, customizations, and the number of mice in each cohort
