Bio

Dr. Guang Gao is the Facility Manager of the High Resolution Microscopy Core (HRMC, formerly the LSI Imaging Facility), a shared research platform supporting approximately 120 laboratories across seven Faculties at UBC. He is a bioimaging expert with over 10 years of experience in managing multi-user research facilities and in advanced imaging technologies, including confocal and super-resolution microscopy, as well as image analysis.

Dr. Gao completed his PhD at UBC, where he investigated organelle structure and dynamics (PLOS Biology, 2018; Journal of Cell Biology, 2024). He then pursued postdoctoral training in AI-supported imaging analysis and virology (Journal of Cell Biology, 2024; Nature, 2022).

At HRMC, Dr. Gao oversees facility operations, develops grant applications, and leads strategic initiatives to advance bioimaging research. He has contributed to numerous groundbreaking research projects that have resulted in high-impact publications, including ACS Sensors (2024), Nature Communications (2024), Journal of Hazardous Materials (2024), and ACS Nano (2023).

Beyond his operational role, Dr. Gao actively contributes to the broader imaging community by serving on organizing, program, and advisory committees for national and international bioimaging workshops, conferences, and organizations—including the MLMC, Global BioImaging (GBI) Exchange of Experience, and BioImaging North America (BINA).
