Dr. Dana Devine elected as incoming president of Biomedical Excellence for Safer Transfusion

Congratulations to Dr. Dana V. Devine, on her election as The Biomedical Excellence for Safer Transfusion (BEST)’s new President, effective September 29, 2022!

Dr. Devine comes to the post as the current director of the UBC Centre for Blood Research and Chief Scientist at Canadian Blood Services.

Previously, Dr. Devine was  the vice-president medical and scientific for Canadian Blood Services for 11 years. She was also the Director of the Canadian Blood Services Centre for Innovation, and is currently the president of the US-based Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (formerly AABB).

Dr. Devine now chairs several significant medical advisory committees, including one for the American Red Cross (the largest US blood operator), as well as the medical board for the transfusion product company, Macopharma based in Lille, France. She sits on the board of directors of STRM.Bio, a Boston-based gene therapy start-up company, and is is a member of the research advisory boards of the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood, Vitalant (a US-based blood operator), and the Bloodworks Northwest (formerly known as the Puget Sound Blood Centre).

She completed her PhD at Duke University under the direction of Dr. Wendell F. Rosse. Dr. Devine also holds an MSc in marine biology from the Boston University Marine Program located in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
