LSI Bake Sale for Ukraine nets more than $5K for relief work

A March 16 Bake Sale for Ukraine held in the Life Sciences Centre sold out 4 hours ahead of time, at 1 pm.

Led by Dr. Carolina Tropini and lab, more than $5,241.15 was raised for charities doing relief work.

Researchers, trainees and staff all contributed baked goods to the sale, and did a splendid job marketing the dazzling array of items. “We want to thank you, our community, for your generosity and support of the Ukrainian people during this time of crisis,” Dr. Tropini wrote in a message.

The funds raised are to be distributed to three organizations:

– $2,000 to the Maple Hope Foundation

– $1,242 to the IRC – Ukraine fund

– $2,000 to Canada-Ukraine Foundation

The silent auction cake went to Dr. Katharine Ng.

Special thanks to Sue Palichuk, Darlene Birkenhead, Aryannah Rollinson, and Sharda Muni for their efforts.
