What has COVID-19 been like for you? We want to hear from BC kids in elementary school

June 22, 2020

LSI has teamed up with the Vienna-based Institute of Molecular Biology (IMBA) to issue a call to children in Austria and British Columbia: send us your letters and drawings – we want to share them with the world!

Inspired by North Vancouver teacher Stephanie Lecce’s Spring 2020 gratitude project for front-line workers, four children in her grade three class at St. Pius X school sent LSI Director Josef Penninger their letters and drawings in May.

Charmed by their efforts, IMBA’s Senior Communications Manager, Ines Mehu-Blantar, proposed the two institutes collaborate: first on an online gallery showcasing the children’s submissions, as well as responses from our respective researchers. Next, we hope to secure funding to publish a book capturing this snapshot of a unique time in human history.

We invite elementary school children to send their submissions to us by snail mail ideally, but email will happily be accepted at communications.lsi@ubc.ca

Learn more by watching this video with a personal invitation from Dr. Josef Penninger to participate in the project.
