From Beta Cells to Bicycles: Kieffer Lab Trainee Priye Iworima interviewed on BC Diabetes Research Network podcast

February 5, 2020

In late 2019, the BC Diabetes Research Network launched a six-part podcast, hosted by Krista Lamb.

The second episode, released in the New Year, features Priye Iworima, a PhD student in Dr. Tim Kieffer’s lab at the Life Sciences Institute. Ms Iworma, a rising star in diabetes research, is one of six interviewees, who will discuss many aspects of diabetes research, and the exciting work being done in the province. Her current research involves using stem cells to generate insulin-producing cells, and optimizing the process for potential replacement cell therapy in patients living with type 1 diabetes.

“From Beta Cells to Bicycles,” refers to the multi-disciplinary nature of diabetes research in BC – from lab bench discoveries to nutrition and exercise sciences– BCDRN researchers are working on many fronts to expand what is known about diabetes, while working towards a cure.
