LSI has established a Commercialization Advisory Board (CAB) to promote our vigorous commercialization program. The CAB is meeting at LSI every 2 months to present new spinoffs and mentor LSI entrepreneurs on commercialization strategies and funding. Each 2-hour meeting includes presentations by 2-3 new companies followed by a networking wine and cheese reception.
So far LSI CAB meetings have been a big success. Presenting companies included Contextual Genomics, AbCellera, Acuitas, GenXys, Microbiome Insights, Sitka and Adeccammas Diagnostic Imaging (ADI). CAB now has over 40 members – executives and investors from the life sciences sector (companies and organizations such as Stemcell, J&J, Sanofi, Amgen, TELUS, PHEMI, Northern Lipids, CDRD, Accel-Rx, Versant, BDC, BCIC, eFund, Discovery Parks, etc., as well as individual angel investors.)
This is a great opportunity:
- for academic founders of new UBC spinoffs – to connect with industrial partners and investors, get advice on their commercialization plans and learn what works for other startups,
- for UBC researchers working on translational projects – to explore various paths for commercialization through a spinoff or a collaboration with an existing company, and to connect with potential industrial partners in a friendly, informal environment,
- for UBC students – to identify new mentors, training and partnership opportunities in industry and consider entrepreneurship as a possible career option.
